• We are going to change the world for the better

I turned eighteen two days before the 2008 election and was thrilled to be able to support an amazing candidate the first time I ever voted. I remember watching the election results later that night, squeezing my roommate's hand as we waited nervously to see if Obama would be our next president. When the results came in, we could hear cheers erupting from up and down our street. We walked onto campus and the streets were filled with people celebrating. I can still remember how amazing it was, knowing that all of these people felt the same way I did. That night was the first time I’d felt such intense solidarity in the middle of a crowd of strangers.

Later, in January, I made the drive to DC for President Obama's inauguration. It was so cold I couldn't feel my feet, but I forgot all about that as soon as The President walked onto the stage. I knew then that I needed to be involved with his next campaign. President Obama has been a fantastic leader for the past three and a half years. He has achieved so much, despite opposition that puts petty party issues before the best interests of all Americans. I feel safe with President Obama in office, knowing that despite conservative efforts, he will stand up for women, the LGBT community, and working families. His accomplishments are historic, from the Affordable Care Act to authorizing the apprehension of Osama bin Laden. The President has proven his dedication to improving the lives of veterans by increasing funding to the Department of Veterans Affairs and arranging travel for families of service members to greet returning troops, in addition to effectively ending two wars. His impressive track record from his first term makes me eager to ensure he serves for four more years.

I'm so excited to be a part of President Obama's campaign this time around. We are going to change the world for the better. We’re planning a lot of fun events this summer (in my opinion, Democrats throw the best parties) and I can't wait to meet more of Obama's supporters who are as pumped up for the upcoming election as I am! I love canvassing and community outreach because it always inspires me when I connect with someone new and help them get involved with a cause they feel passionately about. This campaign is going to get intense, but I know we can do it. Let's get fired up and make sure that our superb president gets four more years! I'm in, are you?
