On the heels of several energizing house meetings in the area, campaign supporters in Northwest Denver are launching a bilingual voter registration drive in key Latino neighborhoods. At our local house meetings, many attendees stressed the urgency of reaching out to Latinos in their own neighborhoods. Ana Maria was one of those attendees, and she has graciously offered her home in the West Colfax neighborhood to host a door-to-door bilingual voter registration drive.
“It’s important that members of my community learn how elections impact their everyday lives and what President Obama is doing to improve the future for our children and grandchildren,” says Ana Maria. Last year she held a similar event with great success, as Spanish and English-speaking volunteers were paired up with one another to canvass Latino neighborhoods and urge voters to vote in the 2010 midterm elections. This time around, volunteers will be focused on updating voter registration.
