President Obama’s supporters across South Carolina came together today in Columbia and Charleston while Republican voters went to the polls. Hundreds of supporters showed up in Columbia to hear from Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Democratic National Committee Executive Director Patrick Gaspard. Despite bad weather, people turned out excited and ready to show their support for President Obama. As the speakers took questions, one attendee stood up and rallied the crowd, shouting “Fired up, ready to go!” the well-known phrase that began here in South Carolina.

In Charleston, State Rep. J. Seth Whipper and Obama for America South Carolina State Director Lee Goodall talked with a room full of supporters, encouraging them to stand up to protect the progress made under President Obama’s leadership and keep up the fight for more.

Today’s 2012 Action Meetings were the culmination of a Week of Action that included events held across the state. The Week of Action was a coordinated, statewide effort to reach out to President Obama’s supporters and encourage them to get involved by taking action in their communities. Events included faith outreach, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebrations, college mobilization, small business canvassing, and women-to-women phone banks.
