Starting the Conversation

Approaching friends and family about who they’re voting for can be intimidating—especially if you’ve never talked about politics with them before. But this campaign is built by supporters sharing our stories and what inspires us to be a part of this movement for change.

Check out these tips for getting the conversation going:

Your opinion matters to your friends and family, so don’t be afraid to speak up.

Find a good time: It might take a few conversations for you to get to the issues, so start as early as possible.

Keep it personal—let people know you support the President and why you’re involved with the campaign.

Don’t worry if you don’t have all the information about every single policy area—you can always look things up later and get back to them.

Don’t come empty-handed: Print out information that might be relevant to the person you’re talking with.

Know your audience: If they’re concerned about President Obama’s policies, think about where they’re coming from and what their priorities are.
