We all know how much is at stake for our community in this election. President Obama needs more than our votes—he needs our help. Here are five things you can do right now to make sure we win:

1. Tell your Facebook friends in key states to vote. Get started.

2. Help get out the vote. Volunteer in your neighborhood.

3. Call voters in key states to remind them to get to the polls. You can use our online call tool to make calls from home.

4. Go vote—and bring a friend (or five). Confirm where you'll vote.

5. Then spread the word. Let everyone know you voted, and ask them to do the same.

President Obama is working hard for our community -- from restoring economic security, to providing access to quality education and offering better health care coverage. Mitt Romney’s plans could undo the progress that has been made, while increasing the burden on middle class families. There’s so much at stake in this election—make sure your friends have the facts.

Forward on economic security

• Lowering taxes: President Obama cut taxes for every working American, putting $3,600 back in the pockets of the typical family making $50,000 a year.

• Supporting small businesses: The Obama administration has awarded over $26 billion in federal prime contracts to African American-owned businesses, while helping small businesses access the loans they need and cutting taxes 18 times.

• Putting Americans back to work: The Recovery Act that President Obama signed into law kept 1.3 million African Americans out of poverty in 2010, extended unemployment insurance, and provided job training and summer jobs programs for urban youth.

Backward

• Mitt Romney’s proposed plan would increase taxes for middle class families and put 30 million small business owners at risk of higher taxes, just to pay for tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires.

Forward on education

• Giving students a head start: The Recovery Act invested $5 billion in early learning programs such as Head Start, Early Head Start, child care, and programs for infants with disabilities.

• Expanding access to college: More than 200,000 additional African-American students will be better able to afford college over the next decade, thanks to increased funding for Pell Grants.

• Investing in minority-Serving institutions: The Obama administration secured a $2.55 billion investment for Historically Black Colleges and Universities and other minority-serving intuitions.

Backward

• Mitt Romney could cut funding for early education, roll back student loan reforms, and end the tax breaks that President Obama put in place for families paying for college—his advice to students worrying about how to pay for college is to “shop around” and “borrow money "from your parents."

Forward on health care

• Expanding access: Obamacare will give all Americans access to affordable health insurance—including 7 million uninsured African Americans.

• Ending insurance abuses: Starting soon, insurance companies will no longer deny coverage to anyone with pre-existing conditions, and will no longer be able to cap your coverage when you get sick.

Backward

• Mitt Romney has promised to repeal Obamacare on “Day One,” ending all the benefits of health reform and putting insurance companies back in control.
