When he goes to the polls for the first time in November, Jon Hordos, 17, plans to vote for U.S. Sen. Barack Obama.
Hordos, who turns 18 in July, said the probable Democratic presidential candidate won his support because of opinions on foreign policy and health care. Hordos came to the Monday event at Troy High School with about 10 of his Troy Athens classmates. "I'm probably the most liberal person here," said Hordos, who finished his senior year last week.
Hundreds of Obama supporters of all ages and races waited for hours to enter the school's gymnasium. Many sported T-shirts and buttons supporting the Illinois senator. As they waited for the town hall meeting to start, attendees stomped feet, cheered wildly and clapped heartily, sometimes chanting "Yes we can!"
