Obama volunteers fan out around SC neighborhoods
WIS TV | June 10, 2007
Nearly 300 volunteers were expected to fan out across South Carolina Saturday as part of Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama's nationwide "Walk for Change" campaign.
The Illinois senator kicked off the effort in person in Iowa.
Volunteers across the country checked names against voter lists and tried to find out if people they talked to plan to support Obama in his bid to become president.
Obama has been trailing New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton in the polls.
An Associated Press-Ipsos poll out Saturday showed Clinton had 33 percent to Obama's 21 percent.
Former North Carolina Senator John Edwards had 12 percent. And former Vice President Al Gore had 20 percent.
South Carolina's Democratic primary is still eight months away.
